It has been a wild ride, but things are finally settling down after the Oscar’s gift lounge and winter break. I am just getting back into my art studio, but wanted to share with you the amazing photos that were captured at the event. I am so tickled to once again have my journals displayed via The Artisan Group at this years invitation-only luxury celebrity gift lounge that was hosted by the GBK Productions this past February. First up, we have a nice photo of up and coming Actor Sam Asghari holding my favorite journal on display. I do hope that he shares some of the TAG goodies with his well know girlfriend Britney Spears. Um, Hello!! If you don’t follow him on Instagram, go check his page out. I promise that you will be in for a treat.
And I was tickled to see that Anne-Marie Johnson took an interest in one of my journals, as well. She is best known for her role in The Heat of the Night. It was a favorite show of mine as I was growing up, so I am kind of fangirling right now. and last but not least, Fredrica Bailey also stopped by. She is an amazing writer and is best known for See You Yesterday, which was a nominee for Best First Feature. How cool is that? I hope you guys enjoyed the photos as much as I did. It is always an honor to see my handmade journals on such a stage. I am truly honored and blessed. Now, I am off to go create more for you! Be sure to check out my shop section, or my Etsy site, to own a journal for yourself, or to give to that special someone in your life. Until next time, Kristi
I have been teasing you guys with what I have been working on for the last few months. Well, today is the day that I get to tell you! The Nib and Quill, in association with The Artisan Group, will participate in an invitation-only luxury celebrity gift lounge hosted by the GBK Productions on Feb 7-8, 2020 at an exclusive location in West Hollywood, California in honor of the Oscar nominees and presenters. Attending celebrities, select press and media, and other VIP’s will receive our pocket sized rustic leather journals.I am excited to say that 85 of these beautiful journals will be included in the celebrity gift bags. I have used assorted colored threads on them to keep it fun and interesting. I can’t help but want to know who receives which color. My favorite color to work with was the mustard, as it’s my go to color for anything in life. I decided to go with a basic packaging. I usually tend to go with the homemade rustic look in all of my packaging . I will have two 5×7 journals on display. In the past I have received a few celebrity photos of them holding my journals at the event. I am crossing my fingers for this to happen again this year! Below is a picture of the the display journals in the process of being built. I fell in love this this handmade marble paper. I love to use vintage skeleton keys in most of my work, so it was a no brainer when I came across this beautiful piece! The brass skeleton key matched the gold marbling perfectly. If you would like to own one of these little Oscar books for yourself or want to browse my other many handmade journals and guest books, click here to claim yours today! It was such a pleasure being able to display and gift my journals at the GBK MTV Movie Awards again this year. Things are finally calming down a bit since then, and I would like to share the celebrity photos that I have received.
First up is the amazing Adrienne Bailon. My daughter was a huge fan of the musical group The Cheetah Girls, and Adrienne was one of the members. She is now known as one of the hosts for ‘The Real’ day time talk show.
Second we have Dana Gourrier, an amazing actress. She has been in several movies and shows including “The Astronaut Wives Club” and “The Hateful Eight”, just to name a few.
And last but not least, we have Dre Davis, from “The Pretty Little Liars”. I am obsessed with this show, so you know that I was thrilled to see her posing with my journals.
I am so grateful to The Artisan Group for giving me the opportunity to participate in another amazing event.
Have you ever had a dream that seemed far-fetched, only to have it come true in the most unexpected way? I became a part of this lucky sisterhood a few weeks ago. You see, my dream has always been to have my work featured in an art gallery and it is through my discovery of an amazing artist’s creative use of my small leather bound journals that has brought the unexpected realization of my dream.
The creative artist is Daniel Lai. And the vehicle for the realization of my dream is through Daniel’s use of my little leather bound books in his one-of-a kind book sculptures.
Daniel and his art are amazing. Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Daniel moved to the United States in late December of 1999. Ever in pursuit of knowledge and beauty he is a life-long learner. His current exploration is engaging in the pursuit of a Ph.D. in Criminology. When he isn’t nose deep in a mighty academic tome, he is creating art out of these vessels of knowledge.
As a young child, bound with the endless creative energy of youth he would fold the pages of his textbooks into intricate sculptures. It is this elixir of youth, books, and worldly muses that were the impetus of his love of sculpting and you have a master book artist!
Creating book art to display on your walls
Daniel’s book sculptures are often adorned with a clay figure, keys and sometimes the small leather bound books. These are the small leather bound books that I create in my shop, The Nib and Quill. Many of Daniel’s works can be seen at Kenjio, his Etsy store.
He has been featured on T.V., and his work has been published in numerous books and magazines. Although his work is stunning online, you must see his work in person. Just to name a few places, his book sculptures can be found at The Bennet Gallery in Nashville, TN and The Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC.
Daniel’s next show is at the Piedmont Park Art Fest, Atlanta GA. August 15th and 16th.
I have a few quiet moments and would like to take the time to share. As many of you may know, I was recently selected to be one of six unique artisans to be featured in The Artisan Group’sTAGazine for the 2015 GBK’s MTV Movie Awards Celebrity Gift Lounge. Needless to say, I was shocked and completely honored to have been one of the 6 chosen.
It really made me stop and think about my work and how inspired I truly am by what I do and how I want my books to inspire you, as well. My rustic guest books, journals, and special event books, just to name a few, are created to inspire others to document their history. I want people to be able to share and capture their precious memories, birth announcements, artwork, or their everyday childhood memories. And I painstakingly sew my books with care to ensure they will last a lifetime, creating heirloom quality as I sew.
Handmade journals with a vintage feel
Each journal page is hand torn to create a special vintage feel, which I am known for. Authentic skeleton keys are added to remind us all of the times gone by. I seriously get excited just thinking about my journals and what they really mean to me. My packaging and presentation is just as important to me as the book itself. I gift wrap every journal as if I am receiving it myself.
The attention to detail is not forgotten here! I include little vintage inspired goodies along with extra journal paper to test your pens. Often I use fountain pens and I personally like to have a test sheet, just in case. I really want my customers to have an enjoyable experience when they purchase from The Nib and Quill.
It brings me great joy knowing that I can pass along my books to my children. And I can only hope that my customers will feel the same way. So, whatever you decide to fill your Nib and Quill journals with, just know that they were created with love and care in mind. I know that it will show, from my craftsmanship to my packaging. Thanks for letting me share with you today!

I am super excited to share that my Elegant little Coptic journal, was gifted on The Wendy Williams Show about Oscar Swag on February 22, 2013! I created it just for this! I thought she would just love the feminine look of it.

This huge, 69 pound bag of Swag, is full of journals, stationery, fine jewelry, and wonderful skin care, to just name a few. Who wouldn’t just die to peek inside? I know that I would.
